Is Mirrored Furniture still on-trend? All your questions about Mirrored Furniture and all that shimmers
Is mirrored furniture trendy?
We here at VAVOOM headquarters have a bit of a soft spot for the gloriously luxurious mirrored furniture style, our humble little company started in 2009 and we were predominantly selling mirrored furniture. We were, without bragging (much!), one of the most popular places for this gorgeously luxurious style. But then came the minimal, Scandinavian and industrial looks that seemed to bulldoze right through this lux style with the minimal clean approach in light timbers and metal.
Fear not stylistas! We have definitely noticed a bit of a renaissance for this spectacular design ethos. We are seeing mirrored furniture come up in style mags, on insta and with our fellow Pinetrest fans. What we are loving most of all is combining mirrored furniture with eclectic and global pieces to transform it into a luxurious yes worldly statement piece.
What style can mirrored furniture be?
We get asked this question a great deal. The truth is that in this day and age mirrored furniture can wear many hats. It is definitely revealing itself in all shapes and styles, combined with more minimal and modern looks. We are seeing antique, vintage bedside tables alongside minimal velvet headboards and Scandinavian beds. We are oohing and aahing over modern consoles with beautiful chunky shapes and styles as well as Art Deco, Oriental and Asian inspired furniture in mirrored finishing. We are even seeing beautiful white mirrored furniture with lattice shapes in Hamptons and Coastal style homes. The furniture pieces include patterns, lattice shapes, unique handles, etching and antique borders that offer variety and points of interest to the design pieces that are adding dimension to the design.
Can you have too much of a good thing in mirrored furniture?
Let’s face it, sometimes us stylish people like to go all-or-nothing when we spot a good thing and as much as we would like to argue this point the last thing we want our house to look like is the Versailles Museum! Mirrored furniture works well when used as a key focal point in the room. For the hallway, a beautiful Art Deco inspired console turns your simple entrance into a grand and lavish affair. Pair it with a beautiful lamp and some abstract art and you have an entrance fit for a king or queen without feeling like Marie Antoinette.
In the bedroom stick to either bedside tables or an armoire as this will soften the mirrored furniture overload in the bedroom. Pair it with soft velvets and earthy linens to stay on trend and in-line with modern design movements. Keep the pieces as features and try not to be too matchy-matchy, this will give depth and interest to your space and not to mention easier to clean!
Is mirrored furniture easy to clean?
Taking us to the next point, one of the most frequently asked questions we get here at VAVOOM is if mirrored furniture is hard to keep clean. We have had countless mirrored furniture pieces in our showroom and have to admit that we have come up with some great little tricks for keeping our gorgeous pieces shimmering, shining, splendid!
Glass Wipes in our special drawer
One trick is we have neatly hidden a little pouch of glass wipes inside the top drawer of our dressing table. Whenever we notice any fingerprint marks or dust we just pull open the drawer and voila! This is great for those of you out there that tend to find walking all the way to the kitchen to get a glass cleaner and cloth way too much exertion. Oh no, is that just me then?
Homemade Cleaning Products
Sometimes homemade cleaning solutions do the best job—and are more economical and won't contain unknown chemicals. To create your own glass cleaner, mix together 1 cup rubbing alcohol, 1 cup water, and 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar. Using isopropyl alcohol and white vinegar together makes a quickly evaporating spray glass and mirror cleaner that competes with national brands. This can also be used to give a nice shine to your mirrored furniture and a lasting finish and sparkle that will have you pleasantly blinded!
Microfiber all the way
Also, using a microfiber cloth is an absolute must. These nifty little cloths are like magnets to dust and dirt and one quick wipe and the surface is spotless without much rubbing.
Clean from top to bottom
If you really want your window or mirror to be streak free, clean from the top to the bottom. Because the cleaning solution can drip, you want to use gravity to your advantage and let the cleaner drip into areas you haven't washed yet. Begin at the top and work your way down to make sure that no drips will happen on the glass surfaces that are already perfectly cleaned.
Will furniture go out of style?
Mirrored Furniture is an expensive and big decision when it comes to a design avenue. It is why we like to suggest using mirrored pieces as statement pieces rather than part of a Mirrored Furniture collection. A single, striking piece with strong lines and bold shapes will be a timeless part of your interior décor. Keep the furniture simple and use accessories to either add to the luxury effect or to tone it down with woods and coastal features.
